Bridgeport Bulls Football 2025: The Preseason Breakdown

After finishing his first season with a 3–7 record, Head Coach Aaron Cupp is hoping to turn things around for the Bridgeport Bulls in 2025. Competing in a tough district that features powerhouse programs like the Brock Eagles and Graham Steers, the Bulls will need big-time performances from their impact players. For the program to take the next step toward a winning season, the team’s key strengths must become a foundation they can build around.

One of those strengths, according to Coach Cupp, is the defensive line. “I think our defensive line is loaded,” Cupp said. That group is led by seniors Sam Ince and Ricky Herrera, along with junior Matthew Eslinger, each of whom earned all-district honors last season and are poised to wreak havoc once again. The defense is strong beyond the front, too, with senior linebacker Tatum Blaylock and safety Josh Spotts also returning as all-district selections.

While the defense looks to be a steady force, the offense has more question marks, starting at quarterback. A three-man competition is underway featuring junior Dylan Hunter, sophomore Adrian Myers, and junior Bryce Webb. Hunter appears to be the frontrunner, having started last season and earned end-of-year recognition for his performance.

One player the offense will look to lean on is Mason Billings. Once a quarterback, Billings has transitioned to tight end, where his 6’4″, 225-pound frame and impressive speed could make him an underrated weapon in the Bulls’ passing game.

Ultimately, both sides of the ball will need to raise their level of play for Bridgeport to compete in a stacked district. The Bulls averaged just 14 points per game last season while allowing 34.9 points to opponents. Improving those numbers will be key if they want to take a step forward in 2025.
