After a promising 2024 season and back-to-back state championship appearances in 2021 and 2022, head coach Billy Mathis is determined to return Brock football to the pinnacle of Texas high school football. There aren’t many individuals in North Texas who love the game as deeply as Mathis. His passion radiates throughout the Brock community, setting high expectations for players from pee-wee to varsity.

With a winning pedigree comes the annual challenge of successfully replacing senior leadership. Fortunately for Mathis, veterans like seniors Colt Matlock and Tobyn Roger are stepping up to carry that weight. The Eagles also find an opening in a key position following the graduation of quarterback Brody Woods. Mathis plans to roll out two savvy juniors, Holt Frazier, last year’s junior varsity quarterback, and Braeden Ray, a returning varsity wide receiver.

Defensively, the Eagles have fewer question marks. Mathis guarantees the unit will feature hard-nosed playmakers who will bring “bad intentions” when the pads go on.

“In some places you play football because it’s fun,” Mathis said. “But here in Brock, Texas, we play football because it’s life.”

With that mentality, Coach Mathis and the Brock Eagles have a clear goal for 2025, keep their postseason alive until the final whistle blows.
