Since joining the program in 2017, head coach Steve Huff has instilled a culture of unselfishness and purpose at Decatur High School. Under his leadership, the Eagles have become a consistent playoff team with a strong identity.
Huff, a state champion during his time at College Station, brought high expectations to Decatur. Last season, Decatur finished 7-5 after facing tough competition early and finishing strong in district play.
Reflecting on the Eagles’ 1-3 start in non-district play last year, Huff said, “We need to know who we are after those first four games.” He believes that going undefeated in conference play does not build character; instead, he wants the team to be battle-tested when district play begins.
Huff noted that “from day one, the kids were just hungry for success,” a mindset that now serves as a foundation of Decatur’s program.
As the Eagles prepare for the 2025 season, Huff remains focused on developing a resilient and disciplined team capable of competing at an elite level.
