The Decatur Eagles enter the 2025 season with competition and high expectations across the board. The Eagles are looking to avoid last year’s rocky start and build off their strong finish.
On offense, Decatur returns a versatile group of playmakers including seniors Jamari Fletcher, Chase Berg, Jake Milligan and Jett Jenkins. Head coach Steve Huff believes the team “has four running backs who deserve the ball.” Huff also has a decision to make between “three kids battling it out” for the starting quarterback position. Whether he lands on senior Rylan Siebeneck, sophomore Rhys Ragan or sophomore Will Chaney, Huff feels confident in each player’s ability to run the Eagle offense at a high level.
On the other side of the ball, the Eagle defense will look different than it has in years past. Coach Huff has called for senior leadership to step up as younger players fill in for last year’s graduates. Huff believes that “the key to anything is leadership,” which demands more than just an on-field presence from key defensive pieces like seniors Keaton Goode, Casen Cooper and Wesley Morton.
Decatur hopes to avoid another slow start by bringing early consistency from the quarterback position and its new defense. The Eagles are set to start the season with some questions to answer, but a roster built to compete.
