WEATHERFORD, Texas — The 2025 season opener didn’t go the way the Roos had hoped as they fell 35-21 Friday to Hurst L.D. Bell at Bedford’s Pennington Field.

Weatherford kept it close early, trailing just 14-7, before the Blue Raiders pulled away with several explosive runs to build a four-score lead. The Roos battled back in the fourth quarter with two touchdowns, including a 14-yard strike from quarterback Jacob Hemphill to John Magill.

Weatherford will look to regroup Friday when it hosts Azle in a Parker County rivalry matchup at Kangaroo Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. The Hornets dropped their opener to Abilene Cooper, 49-25.

The Lady Roos volleyball team turned in a strong showing at the Arlington Classic, going 3-1 over the weekend to move to 14-9 on the year. Tournament play is now complete for the season. Weatherford will host Mineral Wells on Tuesday and travel Friday to Keller Fossil Ridge.

In cross country, junior Remington Boone placed 10th overall on the girls side at the Coach T Run on Saturday at Denton’s North Lakes Park.
