KERENS, Texas — Kerens struck first against one of the state’s top-ranked small-school programs, but ultimately fell 35-13 to Bremond in the 2025 season opener Thursday night.
The Bobcats grabbed a 7-0 lead before the Tigers, ranked No. 3 in Class 2A Division II, pulled away for the win. Despite the loss, head coach Brent Watkins said the game provided valuable lessons for his staff and players as they navigate a tough non-district schedule.
Kerens will remain at home this week for another Thursday contest, facing Axtell at 7 p.m. The Longhorns enter ranked No. 14 in Class 2A Division I.
In volleyball, the Lady Bobcats wrapped up their home tournament last week, earning wins over Hubbard and Rice before falling to Itasca on Friday. They hosted Trinidad on Tuesday and will travel Friday to play Kemp.
The cross country season also continues this week for Kerens.
