It’s a short week for the Weatherford Kangaroos, who return to action Thursday night in Mansfield. The Roos face the Lake Ridge Eagles in a District 3-6A matchup, with kickoff set for 7 p.m. at Vernon Newsom Stadium.
Weatherford enters the game 1-6 overall and 0-3 in district play, while Lake Ridge sits at 5-2 and 2-1.
Last Friday was a tough night at home for the Roos, who fell 70-7 to state powerhouse North Crowley, the defending Class 6A Division I state champion. Weatherford’s lone score came on a touchdown pass from quarterback Kutter Kennedy to Jacob Hemphill.
Kennedy threw for 152 yards in the loss and has been a bright spot in an otherwise challenging season. The junior has passed for nearly 1,500 yards and 10 touchdowns this year.
On the volleyball court, the Lady Roos are closing in on a postseason berth in the Class 6A Region I playoffs. Weatherford enters the week 22-13 overall and 7-3 in District 3-6A play as they battle for the second seed. The Lady Roos host Crowley tonight and travel to Lake Ridge on Friday. A win Friday would secure second place in the district standings.
In cross country, the Weatherford girls, led by junior Remington Boone, compete Tuesday in the Class 6A Region I meet at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock.
