It was a notable win for the Boyd Yellow Jackets and head coach Shawn Sparks last Friday. With a 35-21 victory over Bowie, Boyd improved to 4-3 overall and 1-2 in District 4-3A play. The four wins mark a major step forward for the program, matching the total number of wins the Jackets earned over the previous four seasons combined.
The victory didn’t come easily. The game was tied at 21 after three quarters before Boyd pulled away with two fourth-quarter touchdowns.
Senior quarterback Cash Selby threw for 195 yards and rushed for three scores to lead the offense. Senior running back Maddox Parks continued his push toward a 1,000-yard season, rushing for 111 yards and a touchdown to bring his season total just shy of 900 yards.
The Jackets will need that offensive balance Friday on the road at Iowa Park as they look to keep their playoff hopes alive. The Hawks enter the game 3-4 overall and 0-3 in district play. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
On the volleyball court, the Lady Jackets are closing in on the District 10-3A title. They’ve already clinched a playoff berth and enter the week 28-9 overall and 10-0 in district play. Boyd travels to Paradise on Tuesday and visits Pilot Point on Friday to wrap up the regular season.
