The Mildred Eagles host a grudge match tonight against Kerens, with kickoff set for 7 p.m. at Asby Field. The game was moved up from Friday due to weather concerns.
Both teams enter the contest 5-2 overall and 1-1 in District 8-2A play, each with their lone district loss coming against leader Frankston. The Eagles’ defense will need to be sharp against a Kerens offense capable of scoring on big plays.
Mildred carries momentum into the matchup following last Friday’s 35-21 win over Cayuga. The Eagles pulled away with two fourth-quarter touchdowns, highlighted by running back Trent Harris’ 200-yard rushing performance.
On the volleyball court, the Lady Eagles secured their first district championship in 12 years, clinching the District 21-2A title with a win over Frankston at home Tuesday. Mildred wraps up the regular season Friday at Kerens.
In cross country, senior David Villanueva qualified for a return trip to the state meet in Round Rock after placing eighth at the Class 2A Region III meet Tuesday in Huntsville. The Mildred girls team also finished eighth overall.
