It was a proud moment for the Paradise girls cross country team Monday at the Class 3A Region I meet in Lubbock. Freshman Taryn Stoltz and sophomore Allie McCormick both qualified for the UIL state meet after finishing in the top 10 at Mae Simmons Park.

Stoltz placed fifth with a time of 12:25, while McCormick finished eighth at 12:32. The duo will compete at the state meet on Halloween in Round Rock.

On the football field, No. 2-ranked Paradise pulled off a dramatic 21-15 win over Peaster last Friday. Trailing 15-13 with four minutes remaining, Beau Chenevert returned a fumble 25 yards for the game-winning touchdown. The Panthers later sealed the win with a late interception.

With the victory, Paradise improved to 7-1 overall and 4-0 in District 4-3A, clinching a playoff berth under head coach Tommy Koch. The Panthers will use this week’s bye to rest before returning to action on Halloween at Ponder.

In volleyball, the Lady Panthers could have clinched a playoff spot Tuesday if Callisburg lost. Paradise faced district leader Boyd earlier in the week and will host winless Valley View on Friday. The Lady Panthers entered the week 25-12 overall and 6-4 in District 10-3A.
