The No. 2-ranked Paradise Panthers are on the verge of clinching the District 4-3A championship as they travel to Ponder on Friday to take on the Lions. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

The Panthers enter the matchup 7-1 overall and 4-0 in district play, while Ponder sits at 5-3 and 2-3. A win would secure the district title for Paradise.

The Panthers are coming off a well-timed bye week after severe weather swept through North Texas last weekend. The break also gave the team time to recover following its dramatic 21-15 come-from-behind win over Peaster on Oct. 17.

In volleyball, the Lady Panthers have advanced to the Class 3A Region II Division II playoffs. They’ll open Thursday against Village Tech of Cedar Hill at 6 p.m. at Eagle Mountain High School. Paradise played a warmup match Tuesday against Lindsay after finishing the regular season 26-13 overall and 7-5 in District 10-3A.

In cross country, freshman Taryn Stoltz and sophomore Allie McCormick will compete Friday morning in the UIL Class 3A state meet at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock.
