SPRINGTOWN, Texas — Under the Friday night lights at Porcupine Stadium, the Decatur Eagles and Springtown Porcupines battled through an explosive first half that left fans on the edge of their seats. Springtown led 35–30 at halftime, powered by the arm and legs of quarterback Kaine Hill (#7) and the determination of running back Jon Anthony Lardizabal (#2).

Decatur opened the game strong behind sophomore quarterback Rhys Ragan (#13), who wasted no time setting the tone for the Eagles. On the first drive, Ragan connected with wide receiver Chase Berg (#1) on a five-yard touchdown pass to cap off an 80-yard opening drive. Kicker Anthony Weeks (#19) added the extra point, giving Decatur an early 7–0 lead with 7:51 remaining in the first quarter.

Springtown quickly answered. Hill orchestrated a balanced drive before keeping the ball on a seven-yard run for the Porcupines’ first touchdown of the night. Kicker Brennan Smith (#16) split the uprights to tie the game 7–7 with 5:40 left in the quarter.

Decatur continued to attack through the air. Ragan found running back Jake Milligan (#2) on a short pass that turned into an 82-yard sprint to the end zone. Weeks’ kick was true, extending the lead to 14–7. Hill and the Porcupines responded on the next drive as Hill used his quickness to punch in another short rushing touchdown to tie the game again at 14–14.

As the first quarter ended, Springtown found momentum. Hill scrambled out of pressure, cutting through defenders for a 38-yard touchdown run that gave the Porcupines their first lead of the night at 21–14.

Early in the second quarter, Springtown’s defense stepped up when defensive end Robert Lewis (#3) sacked Ragan for a big third-down loss, forcing Decatur to punt. Hill immediately took advantage, leading a drive highlighted by a 25-yard completion to wide receiver Karson Ferguson (#15) and finishing it off with a goal-line carry from Lardizabal to make it 28–14.

Decatur refused to back down. Ragan led the Eagles on a strong response, connecting with Berg on a deep strike that set up a 32-yard field goal from Weeks, cutting the score to 28–17. Hill countered again, finding wide receiver Riley Jackson (#6) for a long gain before Lardizabal powered in for another touchdown, giving Springtown a 35–17 advantage.

The Eagles found life late in the second quarter. Ragan completed back-to-back passes to wide receiver Caden Cobb (#12) and Milligan, who hauled in his second touchdown of the night to make it 35–24. Moments later, linebacker Jackson Hogan (#8) intercepted Hill near midfield, giving Decatur another chance before halftime.

With less than a minute remaining, Ragan connected with Berg once again, this time from 24 yards out, to bring the score to 35–30 at the break.
