It’s a battle for second place in District 3-4A on Friday night in Young County as Eagle Mountain travels to Graham. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Newton Field.

Both teams enter the matchup 3-1 in district play, with Eagle Mountain at 7-2 overall and Graham at 6-3. The stakes are high, the winner secures the No. 2 seed and a more favorable first-round playoff matchup next week.

Eagle Mountain is enjoying an impressive second varsity season. The Knights held off a late rally last week to defeat Mineral Wells 35-30. Senior running back Terry Starks led the way with 152 rushing yards and three touchdowns, pushing his season totals to more than 1,400 yards and 17 scores.

Graham, meanwhile, fell 28-7 to district champion Brock last Friday. The Steers’ defense forced four turnovers but couldn’t capitalize offensively.

On the volleyball court, the fifth-ranked Lady Knights met No. 1 Lubbock Liberty in what amounted to a de facto state championship matchup Monday in the Class 4A Division I Region I area round at Clyde. Eagle Mountain entered the match 33-11, while Liberty stood at 41-2, with the bracket opening up considerably for the winner.
