Sometimes a loss can still feel like a win, and that’s the case for the Boyd Yellow Jackets. Despite a 41-7 defeat Friday night at No. 2-ranked Paradise in the regular-season finale, Boyd is headed to the Class 3A Division I playoffs for the first time since 2020.
The Yellow Jackets finished the regular season 5-5 overall and 2-4 in District 4-3A play. A three-way tie for the final playoff spot between Boyd, Ponder and Bowie was settled by tiebreaker, which favored the Jackets after Bowie’s win over Iowa Park.
Boyd opens the Class 3A Division I Region I playoffs Friday night against perennial power Tuscola Jim Ned. The Indians enter the matchup 9-1. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Art Briles Stadium in Stephenville.
On the volleyball court, the 10th-ranked Lady Jackets are pushing toward a return to the state tournament. Boyd, now 33-9, swept Edgewood in the Class 3A Division II Region II semifinals last Thursday to advance to Monday’s regional final against District 10-3A rival Paradise.
