The Decatur Eagles begin their postseason run tonight in Northeast Tarrant County, opening the Class 4A Division I Region II playoffs against Castleberry of River Oaks. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at the Birdville Fine Arts and Athletic Complex in North Richland Hills.
Decatur enters the playoffs as the No. 2 seed from District 5-4A after finishing the regular season 6-3 overall and 5-1 in district play. Castleberry (6-4) is the third seed from District 6-4A.
The Eagles closed the regular season last Friday with a commanding 62-6 win over Southwest. Decatur stormed ahead with a 35-point first quarter and piled up nearly 500 yards of total offense in the rout.
On the volleyball court, the No. 1-ranked Lady Eagles are heading back to the state semifinals after defeating District 7-4A rival Springtown in four sets Monday to win the Class 4A Region I championship. The match was played at Justin Northwest, improving Decatur’s record to 40-7.
Decatur will face the winner of Tuesday’s Region II final between Celina and Lindale in the state semifinals. That match is scheduled for 4 p.m. Saturday at Wilkerson-Greines Activity Center in Fort Worth.
The Lady Eagles basketball team also opened its season on a high note last Saturday, edging Frisco Memorial 49-46.
