The No. 7-ranked Springtown Porcupines opened what they hope will be a deep playoff run Thursday night, beginning the Class 4A Division I Region II postseason against Lake Worth in Godley.
Springtown entered the bi-district matchup at 10-0 after winning the District 5-4A championship with a perfect 6-0 record. The Pines had a bye last week and were heavy favorites over Lake Worth, which finished 2-8. Springtown also moved up one spot in the state rankings after closing the regular season at No. 8.
A win Thursday would set up a potential area-round showdown next week with No. 10 Frisco Panther Creek.
Springtown’s historic volleyball season came to a close Monday in the Class 4A Division I Region I title match. The Lady Pines met District 7-4A rival Decatur for the fourth time this year, this time at Justin Northwest, and fell in four sets. Springtown had swept Andrews in last week’s regional semifinals to advance.
The Lady Pines finish a remarkable season with a school-record 43 wins, ending at 43-10. Congratulations to the program on its outstanding year.
