This Mineral Wells Rams Sports Minute is brought to you by Ram Country Mineral Wells
Mineral Wells made a strong push in its Class 4A Division I Region I playoff opener Thursday night, but high-powered Glen Rose proved too much to overcome in a 48-34 Tigers victory at Art Briles Stadium.
The Tigers built a 35-14 halftime lead behind standout quarterback Judd Connally, who carved up the Rams defense for more than 300 passing yards and five touchdowns. Despite the deficit, Mineral Wells battled throughout the second half, leaning on quarterback Matthew Lewis, who threw for nearly 200 yards and a touchdown to keep the Rams within striking distance.
The loss closes Mineral Wells’ season at 4-7. It was a challenging campaign marked by key injuries, yet head coach Cody Worrell still guided the Rams to back-to-back playoff appearances, the program’s first time accomplishing that feat since 2015 and 2016.
Mineral Wells’ full season recap will come next week.
On the hardwood, the Lady Rams improved to 1-2 with a win over Western Hills on Friday and face Iowa Park on Tuesday. The boys basketball team opened its season with a 43-35 loss to Springtown.
