A steady, disciplined effort pushed the Graham Steers into the area round of the Class 4A Division II playoffs after a 32-0 shutout of Godley last Friday at Aledo’s Tim Buchanan Stadium. Graham improved to 8-3 on the season while securing its third straight bi-district victory.

The Steers leaned heavily on the ground game, piling up 243 rushing yards. Quarterback Jace Gill continued his late-season surge, rushing for 113 yards and a touchdown, his second consecutive 100-yard performance. Graham’s defense dominated as well, limiting Godley to just 175 total yards in a complete team effort.

A major challenge now awaits. Graham advances to face No. 1 Lubbock Liberty, which moved to 10-1 after a 49-0 win over Monahans in its playoff opener. The Steers and Patriots square off at 6 p.m. Friday at Abilene’s Shotwell Stadium.

On the court, the Lady Blues basketball team opened its season 2-0 with wins over Haskell and Wichita Falls Legacy. They faced Windthorst on Tuesday. The Graham boys began their season Tuesday night on the road at Millsap.
