It’s been an impressive opening stretch for first-year boys basketball head coach Sam Anderson, whose Boyd squad is off to an 8–2 start. Anderson, formerly an assistant at Keller, took over after Jonathan Bates departed for a coaching position in Oklahoma this spring, and the transition has been seamless.

The Jackets are coming off a dominant 5–0 run at the S&S Consolidated Tournament over the weekend. Boyd topped 62 points in every game, and none of the wins came by fewer than 20 points. Senior guard Lex Horton, a 6-foot-4 standout, continues to lead the way offensively, averaging well over 20 points per contest.

Boyd hits the road tonight to face Bridgeport before turning its attention to the Era Tournament, which runs Thursday through Saturday.

On the girls’ side, Kristin Murray’s Lady Jackets are now 7–8 after going 3–2 at the Peaster Tournament. Boyd rebounded convincingly from an 0–2 start in the event, winning its final three games, including a 46–26 victory over San Angelo Lakeview.

The Lady Jackets return home Tuesday to host Alvord, then travel Friday to face Waxahachie Life as non-district play continues.
