Lady Jackets basketball is set to open District 10-3A play this week, with an important December stretch ahead that could shape the postseason picture.

Boyd opens district action Tuesday at home against Callisburg before closing the pre-Christmas slate Friday with a road game at Ponder. While January and February often draw the spotlight, these early district games carry equal weight when it comes to playoff positioning.

The Lady Jackets enter the week at 8-9 overall following a split last week. Boyd handled Alvord with ease on Tuesday, rolling to a 44-19 victory behind strong defensive pressure. However, momentum stalled Friday at Waxahachie Life, where the Lady Jackets struggled to find rhythm in a 53-32 loss.

With district play now underway, consistency will be the focus for a Boyd team still finding its offensive identity while leaning on defense and rebounding to stay competitive.

On the boys side, Jackets basketball continued to build momentum with a strong showing at the Era Tournament last weekend. Boyd finished 3-1, picking up wins over Rains, Bellevue and host Era. The only setback came earlier in the week with a road loss at Bridgeport.

Boyd now stands at 11-4 overall and will close out the pre-holiday schedule with two more games. The Jackets travel to Alvord on Tuesday before returning home Friday to host Graford. The non-district finale provides another opportunity to fine-tune rotations before district play ramps up after the break.

Beyond the court, Boyd is also awaiting confirmation on its future classification. The University Interscholastic League is expected to release new enrollment cutoff numbers later this month as part of its realignment process. Boyd reported an enrollment of 429 students and is expected to remain in Class 3A Division I.

That stability would allow Boyd programs to continue building within familiar competitive structures heading into the next cycle.

As December district play begins for the Lady Jackets and the boys continue a productive non-district run, Boyd athletics enters the holiday break with meaningful games already on the board and plenty still to play for in the weeks ahead.
