Mineral Wells basketball continues to build momentum on both the girls’ and boys’ sides as the calendar turns toward the heart of the season, with recent tournament play providing encouraging signs for the Rams.

The Lady Rams wrapped up play in their own tournament this past weekend and came away with positive results. Mineral Wells posted victories over Llano, McGregor and El Paso Jefferson, finishing the event on a high note and improving its overall record to 10-7. The strong showing helped the Lady Rams rebound from a tough loss to Bridgeport earlier in the week and reaffirmed the team’s ability to respond to adversity.

After a busy stretch of games, Mineral Wells has the first half of this week off before returning to action Friday on the road at Newcastle. The brief break comes at a good time, allowing the Lady Rams to regroup before continuing their non-district schedule and preparing for the next phase of the season.

On the boys’ side, the Rams also turned in a solid performance over the weekend at the Godley Tournament. Mineral Wells picked up tournament wins over Grandview and Sunnyvale, the latter coming in overtime, showcasing resilience and late-game execution. During that stretch, the Rams won three of five games and evened their record at 7-7, signaling steady progress as the season develops.

One of the key storylines for the Rams has been the impact of football crossover Jaiden Fisher. Since joining the basketball program, Fisher has provided an immediate spark and currently leads the team in scoring at nearly 11 points per game. His athleticism and versatility have added another dimension to the Rams’ lineup as roles continue to take shape.

Mineral Wells returns to the floor Tuesday with a road game at Alvarado before hosting Gainesville on Friday, giving the Rams an opportunity to build on their recent success and push above the .500 mark.

Off the court, Mineral Wells’ classification outlook appears clear. With an enrollment of 894 students, it is all but certain the Rams will remain in Class 4A Division II for the upcoming UIL realignment cycle. The UIL is expected to announce its official classification cutoff numbers later this month, but Mineral Wells is not anticipated to be affected by any shifts.

As December continues, both Rams programs are showing growth, depth and competitiveness, traits that could pay dividends as district play approaches.
