Malakoff athletics now has clarity on its competitive level for the next two-year alignment cycle following the UIL’s release of classification cutoff numbers last week. The school will remain in Class 3A Division I, narrowly clearing the enrollment threshold.
Malakoff reported an average daily attendance of 402 students, just above the Class 3A Division I floor of 367. The upper limit of the range is 549 students. The classification applies to football only.
During the current cycle, Malakoff football competes in District 7-3A alongside Commerce, Winnsboro, Rains, Eustace, Mineola and Mount Vernon. Other varsity sports are aligned in District 15-3A with Rains, Edgewood and Grand Saline, an arrangement that will remain in place through the end of the spring sports season.
The UIL is scheduled to announce new district alignments for all Malakoff athletic programs on Feb. 2, providing schools time to prepare for potential changes.
