Lady Rams and Rams basketball teams are starting their holiday tournament schedules this week ahead of the district season.
The Lady Rams open play Monday in the Clifton Tournament against Thrall. The event runs through Tuesday. Mineral Wells enters with an 11-7 overall record, having won four of its last five games. Prior to the UIL-mandated holiday break, the Lady Rams defeated Newcastle, 32-16, on Dec. 18. They continue their non-district schedule Friday at Lampasas. District 6-4A play begins Jan. 9.
The Rams boys team begins tournament action Monday in the Bridgeport Tournament, opening against Wichita Falls Memorial. The event also runs through Tuesday. Mineral Wells is 8-8 for the season. Before the holiday break, the Rams split games the week of Dec. 15, defeating Alvarado, 43-37, but losing to Gainesville, 74-60. Their non-district schedule continues Friday at home against Benbrook. District play for the Rams will begin in mid-January.
