Weatherford basketball teams are in action this week with both boys and girls programs participating in holiday tournaments ahead of district play.

The Roos boys team is competing in the Byron Johnston Tournament in Midland, which began Monday and runs through Wednesday. Weatherford entered the event with a 13-5 record. Before the Christmas break, the Roos split two close games, defeating Arlington Heights, 70-66, but losing to Grapevine, 51-47, in a game decided in the final quarter. District 3-6A action begins Friday at Crowley.

The Lady Roos are hosting their own tournament, also running Monday through Wednesday. Weatherford entered the tournament with a 13-4 overall record. The team struggled early in District 3-6A play, dropping its first two games, including a 62-39 loss at Mansfield on Dec. 16. The Lady Roos resume district competition on Jan. 6.

Soccer seasons for both the boys and girls teams are set to begin next week.
