With tournament play behind them, Cleburne’s winter sports teams are shifting their focus to district competition this week.

Lady Jackets basketball resumes District 8-5A action Tuesday with a key road matchup at Johnson County rival Joshua. The game shapes up as an early measuring stick, as Joshua sits atop the early district standings and is ranked No. 11 in the latest Texas Class 4A girls basketball poll. Cleburne is coming off a challenging showing at the Mansfield Spring Creek BBQ Tournament, where the Lady Jackets went 1-3 but gained valuable experience against strong competition.

On the boys side, the Jackets continue District 8-5A play Tuesday at home against Mansfield Summit. Cleburne enters the week with a 7-11 record after competing in the China Spring Tournament during the holiday break, where the Jackets dropped a pair of games. Following the Summit matchup, Cleburne will host longtime rival Burleson on Friday.

Soccer season is also underway. The boys team opened the year at the Forney Tournament, beginning with a 2-2 draw against Mesquite Horn. The Jackets head to the Ennis Tournament starting Thursday. Meanwhile, the girls soccer team opens its season Thursday at the Aledo Tournament.
