Granbury athletics is hitting the court and the field with confidence as the new year begins.

Lady Pirates basketball is coming off a strong showing at the West Oso tournament before the New Year’s Holiday, where they went 3-1. Granbury now sits at 13-11 overall and 2-0 in District 5-5A play. The team travels to Azle Tuesday before hosting Brewer Friday.

Pirate boys basketball also opens district play Tuesday at Azle. The team has faced a challenging season so far but hopes to use the district schedule as a chance to turn things around. Granbury picked up wins over Springtown and Boyd in the Boyd tournament prior to the New Year’s break.

On the soccer field, Lady Pirates soccer dominated in its season opener, shutting out Stephenville 4-0 last Friday. They host Class 6A powerhouse Weatherford Tuesday. The boys team fell 1-0 to Eagle Mountain last Friday and will play at Wichita Falls Memorial Tuesday. Both teams are scheduled to compete in the Waco tournament starting Thursday.
