Both Malakoff basketball teams used last week’s district bye as an opportunity to regroup, focusing on fundamentals and making adjustments on both ends of the floor.

Each team did see action earlier in the week, beginning with the Lady Tigers. In a tightly contested matchup last Tuesday, Malakoff edged Edgewood, 37-36, in District 15-3A play. The victory moved the Lady Tigers to 10-10 overall and 2-2 in district competition, placing them fourth in the current standings.

The win continued a trend of competitive performances for Malakoff. One of the Lady Tigers’ most notable results this season came at the Kaufman Tournament before the New Year’s holiday, where they defeated Class 5A Corsicana, 58-51.

The Lady Tigers return to district action Tuesday on the road at Winona before hosting Eustace on Friday, providing an opportunity to climb the district standings.

On the boys side, Malakoff dropped its lone game of the week, falling to Edgewood, 68-37. The Tigers now sit at 4-9 overall and 1-1 in District 15-3A play. Like the girls, the Tigers will face Winona on Tuesday and Eustace on Friday as district play resumes.
