Cleburne athletics avoided the weekend winter weather by moving its basketball and soccer contests from Friday to Thursday.
It was a statement week for the No. 22 Lady Jackets basketball program. They won a rematch against second-place Mansfield Summit on Tuesday, 41-35, then blew out Arlington Seguin 71-15 on Thursday. The Lady Jackets now hold a two-game lead in District 8-5A and are 20-8 overall and 9-0 in league play. They travel to Burleson Centennial on Tuesday and enter the matchup riding a six-game winning streak.
Jackets boys basketball experienced a tougher week. They fell to No. 4 Mansfield Summit 57-29 on Tuesday and then lost at Seguin 71-42 on Thursday. Cleburne is now 11-15 overall and 2-5 in 8-5A. The team also travels to Centennial on Tuesday.
In soccer, the Lady Jackets opened District 8-5A play with a 1-1 draw against Centennial on Thursday. They are 6-0-1 overall and travel to Joshua on Tuesday. The boys lost to Centennial 2-1 and are 1-6-4 on the season. They host Joshua on Tuesday.
