Granbury athletics has learned its district assignment for the next two years following the University Interscholastic League’s biannual realignment announced Feb. 2. The Pirates are moving up to the Class 6A level for all sports.
Granbury will compete in District 3-6A in Region I, an eight-team district that includes Aledo, Weatherford and five Arlington ISD schools: Arlington High, Bowie, Lamar, Martin and Sam Houston. It was widely expected that Granbury, Weatherford and Aledo would be grouped together.
There was some relief locally that Granbury was not placed in a westward district, as projections had at times paired the Pirates with Midland and Odessa schools.
Head football coach Bobby Allison’s program will play a three-game non-district schedule against Cleburne, Waco and Irving.
Meanwhile, Lady Pirate basketball is headed to the Class 5A Division I playoffs as the No. 2 Division I seed from District 5-5A. Granbury enters the final week of the regular season at 18-15 and closes district play Tuesday at Saginaw Chisholm Trail. The postseason begins next week.
