The playoff picture for the Boyd Yellow Jackets boys basketball team came down to the final night of district play Tuesday.

Boyd entered the evening locked in a three-team battle with Callisburg and Pilot Point for the final two postseason spots in District 10-3A. Pilot Point, which had a bye Tuesday, was assured of at least a playoff play-in position after finishing district play at 6-6.

Boyd and Callisburg both entered their regular-season finales at 5-6 in district competition. If both teams won, the result would be a three-way tie for the final two playoff positions. Callisburg hosted Whitesboro, while Boyd faced a more challenging road test at second-place Ponder, which had already secured a playoff berth.

Boyd finished the regular season 18-15 overall. While the outcome did not affect Ponder’s district standing, the road environment presented a difficult task for the Yellow Jackets. Another possible scenario involved both Boyd and Callisburg suffering losses, which would leave both teams at 5-7 and force a playoff game to determine the district’s fourth postseason qualifier.

Boyd placed itself in contention with a key 53-48 home victory over Callisburg last Friday.

On the girls side, the Lady Jackets concluded their season last week with a 78-32 loss to Paradise in the regular-season finale. Boyd finished the year 12-20 overall and 4-8 in District 10-3A play.
