Mildred baseball is off to a strong start this season with a 9-1 record after opening the year with a productive stretch at the plate. The Eagles went 3-0 at the Dawson Tournament last weekend.

Through their first 10 games, the Eagles have scored at least eight runs in six contests as the offense continues to produce. With the fast start, Mildred already appears on pace to surpass last season’s 14-win total.

District 20-2A play began Tuesday with Mildred opening against Wortham High School in a doubleheader. The Eagles are off the remainder of the week before returning to action Saturday for a non-district matchup at Fairfield High School.

Lady Eagles softball also opened district play Tuesday with a doubleheader against Wortham at home. Mildred entered the twin bill with a 5-9-2 overall record but a 2-0 start in District 20-2A. Last week, the Lady Eagles opened the district race with a sweep of Kerens High School, winning 18-3 and 19-14.

Meanwhile, Mildred track and field continues its season Thursday at Kerens. At last week’s meet in Dawson, Trent Harris captured first place in the boys 100-meter dash.
