Mineral Wells high school sports teams are in the thick of District 6-4A competition as they navigate the final stretch of the first half and prepare for the second.
Lady Rams softball looked to Friday’s matchup as a springboard for the remainder of the district season. Mineral Wells recently fell to Glen Rose 8-5 on Tuesday before bouncing back in a 16-11 loss to Stephenville in Erath County. The team now sits 16-7 overall and 1-3 in district play. The first half of the district season wraps up Tuesday at home against Graham, with the second half beginning Thursday at home versus Brock. The Brock game was adjusted due to Easter.
Rams baseball split its opening district series with Glen Rose last week. After dropping the opener 8-5 in Somerville County on Tuesday, Mineral Wells rebounded with a 4-2 home win Friday. The Rams currently stand 10-6-1 overall and 1-1 in district action. They played a Saturday non-district game at home against Springtown and will continue district play with a home-and-home series against Stephenville, Tuesday at Stephenville, Friday at home.
Mineral Wells track teams are competing Wednesday at Iowa Park. Last week at the Pojo Relays in Springtown, senior Javawn McKinney took first place in the boys discus, highlighting a strong start to the season.
