Lady Tiger softball is moving into the Class 3A Region II playoffs this week as the second Division I seed.
Malakoff is 20-11 overall and 8-4 in District 15-3A. The Lady Tigers split their final two games of the regular season last week, losing to Grand Saline, 16-6, and defeating Winona, 15-0.
They will face White Oak in the opening round. The Lady Roughnecks are 29-3.
The Lady Tigers will play a warmup game today at Frankston before beginning the series against White Oak on Thursday and Friday in Bullard. Both games are scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
It is the battle for the District 15-3A baseball title in the final week of the season between Malakoff and Edgewood.
The Tigers are 19-4-3 overall, winners of nine straight, and lead District 15-3A at 9-1. Edgewood is 19-12 overall and 8-2 in district play.
The series opens Tuesday at Malakoff, with Friday’s game at Edgewood. A series split would secure the district championship for the Tigers.
Malakoff swept Grand Saline last week.
At the area track meet last week in West Rusk, Miley Dowell won the triple jump and high jump. The girls 4×100 relay team also won.
All are among those advancing to the regional meet.
