Lady Eagle softball is set to begin the Class 2A playoffs Thursday.
Mildred will face Union Grove in the Division I Region III opening round. The series opener is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Union Grove, followed by Game 2 at 3 p.m. Saturday at Mildred. A possible deciding third game would follow.
Mildred is 15-11-2 overall and finished second in District 20-2A at 10-2 behind Frankston. The Lady Eagles lost both meetings to Frankston last week, 5-2 and 19-5. Union Grove, out of Gladewater, is 14-10-1.
Baseball is finishing the regular season with Kerens this week, playing a doubleheader Tuesday. The Eagles entered at 20-4 overall and 8-2 in District 20-2A.
Last week, Mildred split with district leader Frankston, winning 6-4 and losing 9-2.
Mildred boys and girls track will send a strong group to the Region III meet next week in Palestine. Qualifiers include Kendall Ivie in the girls 100-meter hurdles and Parker Durham in the boys long jump.
Boys golf will compete for the Class 2A state title beginning Monday in Austin.
