Pirate baseball faces a familiar opponent in its opening playoff series this week, as it meets Birdville in the Class 5A Division I Region I first round.
The Pirates and Hawks will square off in a best-of-three series. Game 1 is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Granbury, Game 2 will be 7:30 p.m. Friday at Birdville, and a potential deciding Game 3 is set for 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Saginaw Chisholm Trail.
The two teams previously met March 24, when Birdville won 4-2.
The Pirates closed the regular season last week with a split against Chisholm Trail, dropping one game 2-1 before winning the finale 2-1. They enter the playoffs 17-10-1 overall and 9-3 in District 5-5A.
The Class 5A Region I track meet is scheduled for Friday and Saturday in Lubbock. Miller Schenewark will look to return to the state meet after winning the high jump at the area meet April 17 at Denton Braswell. Chase Cantrell will also compete in the discus.
