The Mildred boys golf team captured the Class 2A state championship Tuesday at Lions Municipal Golf Course in Austin. The Eagles secured the title with a two-day total of 597, finishing eight strokes ahead of runner-up Crawford. Landon Reece placed fourth individually and was one of three Mildred golfers to finish in the top 10.
Several members of the Mildred boys and girls track teams will compete in the Class 2A Region III meet Friday and Saturday in Palestine.
Mildred baseball is set to begin the Class 2A Region III playoffs Thursday, weather permitting. The Eagles will face Harleton at 6 p.m. Thursday in Edgewood. No games are scheduled for Friday. The series resumes at 2 p.m. Saturday in Edgewood, with a third game to follow if necessary. Mildred enters the series with a 22-4 record after sweeping Kerens in its final regular-season series, 17-2 and 15-0, to finish 10-2 in District 20-2A play.
The Lady Eagles softball season has concluded. Mildred was swept by Union Grove in the opening round of the Class 2A Division I Region III playoffs last week, falling 5-1 and 16-7. The Lady Eagles finish the season with a 15-13-2 record.
