Aledo softball is advancing to the Class 5A Division I Region I finals after a dominant performance against Lubbock Monterey in the regional semifinals.
The Ladycats swept the series in Holiday, winning 3-1 on Thursday before finishing the sweep with a 17-1 run-rule victory Friday. Aledo improved to 28-10 and will face the winner of the Abilene-Richland series next week.
Meanwhile, Aledo baseball is one win away from advancing in the Class 5A Division I Region I playoffs. The Bearcats defeated Paschal 3-0 on Thursday in the opener of their area playoff series at Aledo. Lucas Nawrocki tossed a complete-game two-hitter with 11 strikeouts and also hit a solo home run.
Game 2 is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday at Paschal, with coverage beginning at 7:15 p.m. on NTX Varsity Sports. If necessary, a deciding Game 3 will be played at 1 p.m. Saturday at Saginaw Boswell. Aledo enters Friday with a 31-3 record.
Aledo track and field will also send three athletes to the Class 5A state meet next week in Austin. Molly Garrison won Region I titles in the 1,600 and 3,200 meters at last week’s regional meet in Lubbock. Tyson Sullivan qualified in the 1,600 and 3,200, while Addie Fields captured the Region I title in the pole vault.
