Aledo enters the matchup with an impressive 36-4 overall record and a perfect 10-0 district championship run in District 5-5A Division I. The Bearcats have continued their dominance into the postseason, sweeping through their first two playoff rounds to remain undefeated at 4-0 in playoff action.

Standing across from them tonight is another powerhouse program in the Amarillo Sandies. Amarillo enters the Regional Semi-Finals at 32-4 overall after finishing second in District 3-5A Division I with a 14-2 district record. Like Aledo, the Sandies have yet to lose in the postseason, also sitting at 4-0 after sweeping both prior playoff opponents.

The matchup features two of the top programs in Texas high school baseball this season. According to MaxPreps rankings, Aledo enters the series ranked No. 5 in the state while Amarillo comes in at No. 18.

This series carries enormous weight in the UIL playoff bracket. The winner advances to the Regional Final Round, the final step before the State Semi-Finals. For Aledo, the pursuit is about more than just advancing. The Bearcats are attempting to defend last season’s 5A Division I State Championship and make another run toward a return trip to Dell Diamond.
