Aledo Looks to Clinch Regional Final Berth Against Amarillo
The defending state champions are now one win away from another Regional Final appearance.
The Aledo Bearcats return to the field this afternoon for Game 2 of the UIL 5A Division I Regional Semi-Final series against the Amarillo Sandies at Abilene Christian University, with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
Aledo enters today’s matchup with momentum after an impressive 8-1 victory in Game 1 Thursday night. After being held scoreless through the first three innings, the Bearcats erupted offensively with three runs in the fourth inning, two more in the fifth, and another three in the sixth to pull away from Amarillo and take control of the series.
Landon Barnes delivered one of the standout performances of the night as Aledo’s offense came alive under the playoff lights in Abilene.
With the victory, Aledo improved to 37-4 overall on the season while continuing a dominant postseason run. The Bearcats remain undefeated in district play at 10-0 and entered the series ranked No. 5 in the state according to MaxPreps rankings.
Amarillo enters Game 2 at 32-5 overall and now faces elimination. The Sandies, ranked No. 18 in Texas, arrived in the Regional Semi-Finals undefeated in playoff play after sweeping through the first two rounds of the postseason.
Now, their season hangs in the balance.
Aledo, meanwhile, has an opportunity to close out the series and advance to the Regional Final round, the final step before the State Semi-Finals in Austin. The Bearcats continue their pursuit of back-to-back 5A Division I State Championships after winning the title during the 2024-25 season.
If Amarillo wins this afternoon, a decisive Game 3 will be played approximately 30 minutes following the conclusion of Game 2.
