Aledo baseball and softball will both learn Friday whether their postseason runs will continue into next week.
The Bearcats lead their Class 5A Division I Region I semifinal series against Amarillo after an 8-1 victory Thursday night at Abilene Christian University. Game 2 is scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday, with a deciding Game 3 to follow if necessary.
Aledo improved to 33-3 with the win and has swept its first four playoff games this postseason. The Bearcats advanced to the regional semifinals after sweeping Paschal 3-0 and 5-3 in the area round last week.
Meanwhile, the Ladycats will face Abilene in the Class 5A Division I Region I championship game Friday afternoon in Graham. First pitch for the one-game playoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. Aledo enters the matchup with a 28-10 record and is seeking a third consecutive trip to the state semifinals.

In track and field, Aledo athletes Molly Garrison, Tyson Sullivan and Addie Fields will compete Friday at the UIL Class 5A state meet in Austin. Garrison and Sullivan will compete in the distance events, while Fields will participate in the pole vault.
