The offseason football program has concluded for Mildred as coach Jeff Callahan’s team transitions into summer strength and conditioning workouts along with UIL-approved sport instruction programs in June.
There are also changes coming to Callahan’s coaching staff ahead of the 2026 season.
Earlier this week, offensive coordinator Bryce Perkins was hired as the new head football coach at Wortham. While Perkins’ departure is a loss for the Eagles staff, it also reflects the recent success of the Mildred program and the recognition its coaches are receiving.
With the timing of the move making an outside search difficult, Callahan promoted Jason Bottoms to offensive coordinator. Bottoms will have a busy year after also being named the new Mildred boys basketball coach last week.
In another addition to the football staff, Dawson boys basketball coach Drew Burnett has been hired as the new secondary coach.
