Top-ranked Aledo celebrates senior night Friday at Tim Buchanan Stadium, hosting Azle in a District 3-5A matchup. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m., with pregame coverage beginning at 6:30 on 92.1 Hank FM with Kevin Lonnquist, Kyle Hix, Mercedes Mayer and the Deacon.
The Bearcats enter the contest 8-0 overall and 6-0 in district play, extending their national-record district winning streak to 133 games. Azle comes in 2-6 overall and 2-4 in district competition.
With a win, Aledo would clinch at least a share of the district championship and secure the top playoff seed thanks to previous victories over Denton Ryan and Richland. That would also guarantee a home playoff game in two weeks.
On the volleyball court, the No. 1-ranked LadyCats opened the Class 5A Division I Region I playoffs Thursday night against Colleyville Heritage. Aledo entered the postseason 37-2 overall after winning the District 5-5A championship with a perfect 12-0 record. The LadyCats carry a 35-match district winning streak into 2026, when the program is expected to compete in Class 6A.
In cross country, both the Aledo boys and girls teams will compete Friday at the UIL Class 5A state meet at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock.
