This Aledo Bearcats Sports Minute is brought to you by Oliver Dyer’s Appliance
The top two teams in Class 5A Division I meet tonight as No. 1 Aledo and No. 2 Frisco Lone Star kick off at 7 p.m. at Newsom Stadium with a trip to the state championship on the line. Both programs enter at 14-0 after dominant regional final victories last week.
Aledo rolled past No. 4 Denton Ryan, 43-17, while Lone Star defeated No. 6 Highland Park, 58-38. The matchup sets up a compelling contrast between Aledo’s elite defense and Lone Star’s explosive offense.
The Bearcats are allowing fewer than seven points and only 175 yards per game behind a physical defensive front anchored by senior defensive ends Carson Dempsey and Cooper Cyphers. Senior middle linebacker Chase Wilburn leads the interior.
Lone Star counters with what may be the most potent offense Aledo has faced all season. The Rangers are averaging 44 points and more than 500 yards per contest, powered by sophomore quarterback Trey Wright, who has surpassed 4,800 total yards, and standout receiver Davian Groce.
The winner advances to next Friday’s state championship at AT&T Stadium in Arlington to face the Smithson Valley–Port Arthur Memorial winner. Hank FM will begin coverage of Aledo–Lone Star at 6:20 p.m., followed by kickoff at 7.
