Aledo saw its championship bid end in heartbreaking fashion last Friday night as No. 2 Frisco Lone Star completed a stunning late comeback to claim a 56-52 victory in the Class 5A Division I state semifinals at Newsom Stadium.

The Bearcats led 52-35 late in the fourth quarter before Lone Star surged back, scoring the game-winning touchdown with 30 seconds remaining. Two pivotal plays swung the outcome in the final three minutes. Rangers quarterback Trey Wright connected on a 48-yard pass to Davian Groce from deep in Lone Star territory to set up a touchdown that cut the margin to one score. Moments later, the Rangers recovered an onside kick at the Aledo 46-yard line, setting the stage for the decisive score.

Despite the loss, Aledo delivered an outstanding offensive performance. Wide receiver Kaydon Finley caught for 251 yards and three touchdowns. Quarterback Lincoln Tubbs threw for 276 yards and three scores while rushing for 175 yards and another touchdown. Brady Powell added 135 rushing yards and a score.

Aledo closes the season at 14-1, finishing one win shy of the state championship game. A full 2025 season recap is expected next week.
