A tremendous season for the Aledo boys basketball team came to an end Tuesday night in Argyle.

The Bearcats fell to sixth-ranked Birdville, 57-41, in the opening round of the Class 5A Division I Region I playoffs. After falling behind 17-5 in the first quarter, Aledo rallied to close within 26-22 at halftime. However, Birdville used an early third-quarter surge to regain control. The Bearcats were never able to cut the deficit closer than seven points the rest of the way.

Senior guard Enrique Pacheco led Aledo with 18 points.

Despite the loss, the Bearcats capped off one of the most successful seasons in program history. Aledo qualified for the playoffs for a third consecutive season, a first for the program, and finished 26-7 overall following an undefeated District 5-5A championship run.

On the soccer pitch, the Ladycats entered the week at 8-6-2 overall and sit atop District 5-5A with a 5-0-2 mark. They play host to Saginaw Chisholm Trail on Friday.

The Bearcats boys soccer team is also leading the district at 7-0 and stands 14-3-1 overall. Aledo travels to Chisholm Trail on Friday. The Bearcats have not allowed a goal in their last 11 matches.

Softball and baseball updates will follow next week.
