Aledo baseball is one win away from advancing to the area round of the Class 5A Division I playoffs.

The Bearcats opened their series against Denton Ryan with a 10-0 victory Thursday at Northwest High School. Denton Ryan replaced Colleyville Heritage as Aledo’s opponent after Grapevine was disqualified from the postseason. The Bearcats improved to 29-3 and will look to complete the sweep at 7 p.m. Friday. The game can be heard on NTXVarsitySports.com. If weather forces a postponement, the game will be played at noon Saturday.

Aledo softball has advanced to the Region I semifinals in the Class 5A Division I playoffs. The Ladycats defeated Paschal 17-0 in three innings Wednesday and will face the winner of the Lubbock Monterey-El Paso El Dorado series next week. Aledo enters the round with a 26-10 record.

In golf, Aledo senior Braden Stokes placed fourth at the UIL Class 5A boys state tournament earlier this week in Austin, finishing with a two-day total of 142.

The Aledo boys and girls track and field teams will also compete at the Class 5A Region I meet Friday and Saturday in Lubbock.
