Aledo soccer is wrapping up an impressive season with postseason play ahead. The Bearcats boys team already secured the District 5-5A title with a 5-0 victory over Granbury High School boys soccer, finishing 17-3-2 overall and 10-1 in district play. They close the regular season Friday on the road at Azle High School boys soccer. This season marks the 25th and final for head coach Derek Vierling, who announced his retirement after guiding the program for a quarter-century.
The Lady Cats are also on the brink of a District 5-5A championship. They moved closer with a 2-1 win at Granbury Tuesday, thanks to two goals from Allyson Weimer. Aledo now sits at 12-7-1 overall and 9-1-1 in district play. Their decisive match comes Friday at home versus Azle, who enter at 9-2. A win or draw would secure the district crown for the Lady Cats.
Both Aledo soccer teams will begin the Class 5A Division I playoffs on March 19. The Lady Cats are set to face Colleyville Heritage High School girls soccer, while the Bearcats’ playoff opponent is to be announced.
