The Lady Saints volleyball program captured its second straight TAPPS 5A state championship Friday, sweeping Lutheran North in the finals at Waco Robinson High School. The victory capped a stellar debut season for first-year head coach Mary Schindler, who guided a roster featuring several new faces.
The road to the title wasn’t without challenges. All Saints had to survive a grueling five-set semifinal battle Thursday against district rival Southwest Christian, a team the Lady Saints split meetings with during the regular season, to reach the championship match. The program now celebrates back-to-back state crowns.
Meanwhile, All Saints football continued its postseason surge with a commanding 58-21 win over Grace Prep on Friday in the TAPPS Division II playoff opener at McNair Stadium. The Saints (11-0) pushed their winning streak to 25 games, powered by quarterback Gavin Beard’s 251 passing yards and five touchdowns. All Saints led 42-7 at halftime and never looked back.
Next up is a second-round matchup against Fort Worth Christian. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Thursday at Grapevine’s Mustang-Panther Stadium.
