BOYD, Texas — A new voice on the sideline brought a big difference on the field.
Under first-year head coach Shawn Sparks, Boyd opened its 2025 season Friday with a resounding 57-6 victory at Howe.
Senior quarterback Cash Selby powered the Yellow Jackets’ offense, throwing for 208 yards and three touchdowns — two of them to Hunter Etter — while also rushing for two scores. Boyd finished with more than 400 yards of total offense.
It marked the first time the Yellow Jackets topped 50 points in a game since their 2020 season opener, a 64-point outburst against Mineral Wells. That season also marked the program’s most recent playoff appearance.
Boyd will look to carry the momentum into its home opener Friday against Jacksboro. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. The Tigers dropped their opener to Eagle Mountain, 34-21.
In volleyball, the Lady Jackets return to play this week after competing in the KSA Invitational in Honolulu, where they split their matches. Boyd will visit Springtown on Tuesday.
At the 11th annual Boyd cross country meet last week, senior Justin Sabio placed sixth overall in the boys division, while Anna Holt finished third overall on the girls side.
