The third time proved to be the charm for Boyd volleyball, and the perfect ending to the remarkable career of head coach Clark Oberle. On Friday, the Lady Jackets captured the first state championship in program history, sweeping Clifton to win the Class 3A Division II state crown.

Boyd controlled the match throughout, winning 25-23, 25-21 and 25-10. The victory delivered long-awaited redemption after state finals losses in 2018 and 2024, and capped the program’s fourth appearance at the state tournament.

For Oberle, who announced earlier this year that the 2025 season would be his 32nd and final one, the title serves as a storybook conclusion. Boyd finished the year 36-9 and dominated its postseason run, dropping only two sets, both in a grueling five-set regional final against district rival Paradise. Each of the Lady Jackets’ other five playoff wins came via sweep.

Boyd closed the season on a 20-match winning streak, cementing one of the greatest seasons in program history.

Congratulations to the Lady Jackets and best wishes to Clark Oberle in retirement.
